From the day your child starts at Holy Family we strive to provide all our children with stimulating, motivating, fun-filled activities. When children are happy and engaged learning ensues ensuring firm foundations are laid.

Staff at Holy Family work extremely hard to create an innovative and engaging curriculum for our children whilst fulfilling all the statutory requirements of the national curriculum. At Holy Family School, we follow the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum in our Reception Class and the National Primary Curriculum 2014 for Key Stages 1 and 2.

Staff organise school trips, residentials (in Years 4 – 6) and visitors are invited into school, all to further enhance the curriculum. Our wonderful outdoor space is also utilised to support the children in their learning. We participate in many events throughout the year including: charity days, special assemblies, poetry days, art and design technology days. Children participate in locally organised sporting events and performance activities held in our local secondary schools.

When planning the curriculum, some work is covered through a cross-curricular approach when a ‘topic’ or ‘theme’ is selected and children learn to apply skills across a number of different subjects. Other times, a subject may be taught discretely to ensure adequate coverage of knowledge and skills.

At Holy Family School we use a number of reading schemes to support the teaching and development of reading. The main schemes are: Oxford Reading Tree, Project X, Rigby Star and Accelerated Reader.

We also follow the ‘Letters and Sounds’ structure to develop children’s phonic awareness (the sounds that letters make). To support this we use Phonics Play and Jolly Phonics.
