At Holy Family Catholic Primary School and Nursery, all pupils in Key Stage 2 will benefit from a rich cultural experience of learning French. As a school we aim to foster an interest in languages allowing the children to learn through a challenging programme (Primary Languages) with all children being able to accesses all schemes of work. As a school we cover different units of work for example ‘greetings’, ‘hobbies’, ‘around town’ and ‘shopping’. These units of work are repeated year by year becoming more challenging to help deepen the children’s vocabulary.
Our teaching aims to support both oracy and written literacy in French.
Pupil Voice from KS2
I enjoy it because I can now understand what people are saying to me and be able to say some words.
It’s fun because its different than my other lessons.
I have really enjoyed learning French because if we ever go to France, I can speak their language.
When I went to France, I didn’t understand the language or how to speak it but now I can introduce myself.
This week in French club, we have had lots of fun learning different dinosaurs names and creating actions to act out to our friends. ???????? pic.twitter.com/9FWbFmf2nU

This week in French club, year 1&2 used their knowledge of greetings to say bonjour, and au revoir using voices from ‘Goldilocks and the three Bears’. We also learnt about families and how we say baby (Bebe), mum (maman) and dad (papa). pic.twitter.com/MJn1zH8Pq1
