School Meals & Menus

Hot lunches in our school are provided by Knowsley Council’s School Meal Service.

The Schools Meals Service provides healthy, nutritiously balanced hot meals freshly made in our school’s own kitchen everyday  by our school Chef Mrs White and her team.

School meals are:

  • Nutritionally balanced to ensure they are low in fat, sugar and salt and high in vitamins and minerals
  • Helping your child to concentrate throughout the day – a hot meal at lunch-time provides energy – as well as encouraging them to try new foods
  • Produced to a high quality using locally produced ingredients
  • Helping your child to learn the social skills that eating and interacting with others brings
  • Great value for money – £2.40 for a primary school meal (£1.85 for Nursery children)

Throughout the year there are promotional days, where the school lunch is £1.00. Dates will be shared on the newsletter. Parent App messages are also sent out re promotional lunches.

The meals are provided free for children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2. The cost of a school meal for KS2 is £2.40 and for Nursery children is £1.85. The menu  includes two hot meal  choices or a hot baked potato with a choice of fillings/soup sandwich and dessert of choice plus a drink. All of our food is low in fat, sugar, salt but high in vitamins and minerals.

At Holy Family we encourage the children whether on a school lunch or a packed lunch to have an enjoyable  and relaxing lunch time experience. Our team of welfare staff  support the children’s lunch time experience. We foster healthy choices, responsibility, independence, good manners and chatting to friends.

Healthy Schools

At Holy Family, we believe that working in partnership with our parents plays a crucial role in improving the health and well-being of our pupils. We recognise the importance of educating our children about healthy living so they can understand the significance of making healthy choices on a daily basis, starting from a young age.

This year, we are excited to review our health provision and actively participate in the Knowsley Healthy School Award Campaign. We believe every child has the right to be healthy, and a healthy body and mind are essential for children to thrive and seize all the opportunities that come their way.

Knowsley Healthy School Award

The Knowsley Healthy School Awards aim to recognise and encourage schools for their contributions toward providing healthy environments for pupils and staff. This initiative celebrates the positive actions schools take in promoting healthy eating and physical activity, while also guiding them on the next steps to enhance their health provisions.

Every child and young person has a right to be healthy. In recent years, this has become increasingly challenging due to various factors affecting children and families. Healthy schools offer a comprehensive approach, ensuring that pupils have access to nutritious food that fuels their learning, while also promoting physical activity throughout the school day.

The program plays a key role in improving children’s health in Knowsley, reducing health inequalities, promoting social inclusion, and enhancing achievement for all.

By helping children and young people make positive changes in their health and well-being, schools empower them to reach their full potential, benefiting them both now and in the future.

Healthy Schools is not just about children and young people—it’s about bringing together the entire school community, along with local services and agencies, to improve health outcomes for everyone.

Participating schools can work toward achieving Bronze, Silver, and Gold awards as part of this voluntary scheme.
